Plug-on Circuit Breakers

The Siemens QP, QT, QAF, and QPF are the standard "interchangeable" plug-on type breakers used in loadcenters under several brand names including Siemens, Murray, Gould, and Sylvania to name the most common. It also fits most Midwest Power and Milbank Mfg metering equipment. Siemens plug-on breakers are very similar to the GE THQL and in most cases will physically fit however UL listing may be lost when using Siemens breakers in GE equipment. Always contact the manufacturer of your equipment to verify what devices are approved before installing.

QP breakers
QT duplex, triplex, and quadplex version of the QP breaker
QAF arc-fault interupting version of the QP breaker
QPF ground-fault interupting version of the QP breaker
QFGA2 dual function GFCI & AFCI version of the QP breaker

Siemens QP breakers provide easy plug-in connections in Siemens enclosures and the time saving Insta-Wire feature. Siemens offers three AIC ratings for these breakers: QP @ 10K AIC, QPH @ 22K AIC, and HQP @ 65 K AIC.

There are 4 available constructions to choose from:

  • 1 Pole 120V
  • 2 Pole 120/240V
  • 2 Pole 240V
  • 3 Pole 240V

Modifications

400Hz Calibration - add suffix Y

Marine 50º C Ambient Calibration - add suffix M

Fungus Proofing - add suffix F

Special Applications

■  HID Lighting  - add suffix HID

15 - 30A 1 and 2-pole breakers for high-intensity discharge lamp loads having in-rush currents above the instantaneous trip setting of a standard breaker.

■  Tungsten Lighting - add suffix T

15-20A 1-pole breaker used for high wattage, tungsten-lamp loads having in-rush currents above the instantaneous trip setting of a standard breaker.

■  Molded Case Switch - add suffix S

100A 1-pole and 30, 60 and 125A 2-pole breakers for applications that do not require overcurrent protection.

■  No-Noise - add suffix NN

50 - 90A 2-pole breakers for applications that require a reduction in the 60-cycle hum of a standard breaker.

■  Switching Neutrals - add prefix QG

15 - 30A 2 and 3-pole breakers used where all conductors are required to be disconnected.  Neutral pole of the circuit breaker does not connect to loadcenter bus. One side is wired to neutral and the other side to the device.

■  Water Heater - add prefix QW

15 - 30A 3-pole breaker used when installed in a loadcenter, the water heater circuit breaker does not make electrical connection with the loadcenter bussing. Separate metered circuit is connected to line terminals of the breaker. Used in special rate water heating areas.

Type QT breakers are the duplex, triplex, and quadplex version of the QP. They provide space savings inside the enclosure by delivering two 1/2" breakers in 1" of space. Duplex breakers are available in a standard version for CTL loadcenters and a "no clip" version for non-CTL loadcenters. Modern loadcenters are CTL rated and meet Section 384-15 of the National Electric Code. The use of non-CTL compliant breakers may violate code and UL Listing of certain loadcenters under certain circumstances.

There are 3 available constructions to choose from:

■  1 Pole 120V Duplex

These space saver duplex breakers combine two independent 1/2" breaker poles in a common unit. This unit plugs into one load center stab and requires one panel space. HACR rated.

■  2 Pole 120/240V Triplex

These space saver triplex breakers provide a 2 pole common trip breaker for 120/240V AC circuits and two single poles for 120V AC circuits. Triplex require two panel spaces. HACR rated.

■  2 Pole 120/240V Quadplex

These space saver quadplex breakers provide two sets of common trip, two-pole breakers for 120/240V AC circuits, and require two panel spaces. HACR rated.

Type QAF Branch Feeder Type Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI) is a device intended to mitigate high current arcing faults in the complete circuit. High current arcing faults occur from line-to-neutral or line-to-ground. These arcing faults are in parallel with the load.

The Branch Feeder Type AFCI is required in the 1999 and 2002 National Electrical Code (NEC).2005 NEC Section 210.12

Dwelling Unit Bedrooms. All 120-volt, single phase, 15 and 20 amp branch circuits supplying outlets installed in dwelling unit bedrooms shall be protected by a listed arc-fault circuit interrupter, combination type installed to provide protection of the branch circuit. Branch/feeder AFCIs shall be permitted to be used to meet the requirements of 210.12(B) until January 1, 2008.

  • Detects arcing faults that standard circuit breakers are unable to detect.

  • Intended to mitigate the effects of parallel arcs (line-to-ground or line-to-neutral) by de-energizing the circuit when an arc-fault is detected.

  • Industry exclusive LED light to indicate type of trip.

Type QPF ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCI) are an effective means of preventing severe electrical shock. GFCIs are installed to protect areas of the home, such as the kitchen, bathroom or laundry, where electrical appliances or products may come into contact with water.

GFCIs are designed to protect against severe electrical shock or electrocution from ground faults. Ground faults occur when the electrical current in an appliance strays outside its normal path, and the human body becomes part of the path through which the electrical current may flow.

To protect equipment from damaging ground faults, Siemens GFCIs continuously monitor the difference in current between the hot and neutral conductors. If the electricity going to an outlet equals the current coming back from the outlet, the GFCI is dormant. If the electricity going to an outlet is greater than 5mA than the current coming back from the outlet, the GFCI will open the circuit to stop of flow of electricity.

  • Suitable for a variety of construction applications: spas, hot tubs, kitchens, bathrooms, etc.

  • Resists false tripping (shielded to prevent RF interference)

  • Standard 1 inch per pole format with plug-in design

  • Provides Class A GFCI protection

Type QFGA2 dual function circuit breakers combines Class A 5mA GFCI and Combination Type AFCI, protecting against both Arc Faults and Ground Faults. This, along with the new Self-Test feature, makes it the first in class in electrical safety for homeowners.

The 2014 National Electrical Code (NEC®) now requires both Arc Fault and Ground Fault protection on kitchen and laundry circuits. Before the release of Dual Function Circuit Breakers, the only option to comply with this code was to pair an AFCI circuit breaker with a GFCI receptacle. The Dual Function Circuit breaker combines these two devices into one solution that provides both cost savings and less hassle in installation and maintenance.

  • Fast installation - easier to install one device than two

  • Cost savings - lower cost than purchasing both a GFCI and AFCI

  • Smaller device - combines two state-of-the art technologies into one small device

  • Self Test feature as required by UL 943 effective June 2015 - Autonomously and continuously tests itself for device malfunction. Trips the device when protection has been compromised
